1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).
2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.
3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.
Cialis (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Here are the key drug-food interactions to be aware of:
Objectives:Cialis (Tadalafil) is a phosphodiesterase (PDE-5) inhibitor that acts by increasing blood flow to the penis, leading to an erection. It has been used for treating erectile dysfunction (ED), but it has also been used off-label for hypertension treatment. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was conducted to determine whether CIALIS could improve erectile function in men with diabetes mellitus (DM).
Methods:A total of 50 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and 20 patients with mild to moderate DM who were also taking CIALIS (Tadalafil) were included in the study. Blood pressure (BP) and other laboratory tests were also taken at baseline and after 1 month of treatment. All patients had a normal or borderline hypo- or hyperlipidemic glucose tolerance test. The patient group received a combination of both treatments. Treatment duration ranged from 4 to 6 months. The mean (SD) age of the patients was 46.7 (4.6) years. Mean (SD) BMI was 27.3 (2.9) kg/m2 (range 18.5-40.3).
Results:In the CIALIS-Tadalafil group, the mean age was 56.1 (3.8) years, with a median follow-up of 12.5 (6.5) months (P<0.001). Baseline BP was higher in the CIALIS-Tadalafil group (61.1 mm Hg, P<0.001) compared to the placebo group (58.4 mm Hg, P<0.001). The mean BMI was higher in the CIALIS-Tadalafil group (37.4 kg/m2 (range 17.9-45.7)) compared to the placebo group (23 kg/m2 (range 15.7-33.6)). Baseline and follow-up laboratory results were normal or borderline normed. There was a significant increase in mean basal BP (3.7 mm Hg [95% confidence interval 3.2-3.9]) and a significant increase in mean basal BP (2.4 mm Hg [95% CI 1.2-2.8]) after 6 months of treatment. The mean change in mean basal BP was statistically significant after 2 months of treatment (4.4 mm Hg [95% CI 3.1-5.5]), which was more than the baseline value (5.5 mm Hg [95% CI 3.1-6.4]). There was no statistically significant difference in mean basal BP at the follow-up.
Conclusion:CIALIS showed statistically significant improvements in blood pressure and in a small number of patients with DM with an improved ability to urinate (15 out of 20 patients). The effect on blood pressure in the CIALIS-Tadalafil group was not statistically significant, as was the effect of the drug.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia: A clinical study in the Department of Urology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Hospital, Shanghai, China.IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION:Hypotension and hypertension are two of the most common causes of ED. Benign prostatic hyperplasia can occur without ED, and it can have an adverse effect on quality of life. There is evidence that CIALIS (Tadalafil) may have a lower risk of side effects than other antihypertensive drugs, such as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, but it has not been studied in men who have diabetes. A study in the Department of Urology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Hospital found that the use of CIALIS (Tadalafil) did not affect the incidence of diabetes mellitus and erectile dysfunction.
The primary goal of CIALIS is to improve erectile function in men with diabetes mellitus or with mild to moderate DM with or without a history of diabetes.

I think I am in the right place. I'm on daily (4-6 hours) cialis. I just want to get back to my normal routine. I've been using it for about 4 weeks now, and I've noticed that it helps with erections. I've been getting the results I need for a few weeks now, and I've noticed that my erections are getting stronger and harder than before. I feel so much more relaxed than before. I'm trying to get back to that routine and let my mind and body know that it's not just Cialis but a whole new thing.
My doctor suggested that I try a different type of Cialis, and it did help. It's a little different than I expected, but it's very effective. I don't have ED issues yet but I've been getting results.
Thanks for your reply. I think it helps some, but it is still not good. My doctor said I need to see a doctor right away if I don't get results. He said that I might need to try Cialis in a different way.
What I'm trying to do is see a doctor, but I don't know how. I'm not sure how long it will take to work, but I am hoping that it will work for some, or maybe that it'll help. I'm not sure if I can even do that with Cialis. My wife and I have never used Cialis before. We just have a friend who is using it for the first time, and we are having difficulty using it.
Thanks again!

I hope this helps. It seems like it's working for me. I have a lot of questions about Cialis, and I'm wondering if this will help.
Thanks so much!
I'm on daily Cialis as well, but I'm wondering if I should continue this. I've tried various other forms of Cialis, but none of them have been successful for me. I'm a little nervous about using Cialis now, but I'm sure it's worth it.

I'm glad you posted. Thanks for sharing your questions.
I've used it for about 4 weeks now. I'm hoping for some improvement over the next couple of months. I don't have ED anymore and my erections are stronger, but I don't feel tired all the time. The only thing I can do is go back to my normal routine. Thanks again for your advice.
I have tried various forms of Cialis (from various sites), and they have not worked for me. I've been using it for about 4 weeks now, and I've noticed that my erections are getting stronger and harder. I've been getting results.
Thanks for your post. I don't know what to do. I've tried some different types of Cialis, but they have been nothing to help me. I'm a little nervous. My question is, will it help with ED? I've been using it for about 4 months now and it has worked for me. But it's not helping for my ED.

The so-called ‘weekend pill’ will soon be made by generic manufacturers, as Eli Lilly’s patent on the drug is expected to expire in the UK 14 November 2017, and will be made available soon after from.
The patent for Cialis expired in March 2015 in Brazil, and is now available in that country as generic tadalafil from Sandoz.
Containing the active ingredienttadalafil, Cialis was, to compete with Pfizer’s erectile dysfunction medicine Viagra. It was originally developed to relieve frequent urination or weak flow of urine in patients with enlarged prostates, but it also helps increase blood flow to the penis.
Cialis, Viagra and several other ED medicines are phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors, which work by inhibiting the enzyme that regulates blood flow to the penis. The principal difference with Cialis is its duration.Unlike Viagra and Levitra, which last for about 4 and 12 hours respectively, Cialis lasts for about 36 hours.Patients will not have a continuous erection, but can achieve one when sexually stimulated throughout that time frame. Under ideal circumstances, a man can buy Cialis to take on a Friday and still experience the effects on Sunday morning.
The extended duration has the potential to allow couples to be more spontaneous than with other ED drugs, which must be taken an hour or so before sexual activity. Cialis can also be taken in lower daily doses of 2.5–5mg, to allow for continuous treatment of ED.
When Pfizer, other manufacturers began making generic sildenafil, resulting in a dramatic reduction in price, and the same can reasonably be expected for Cialis.
When developing a new drug for release to the market, drug companies choose a brand name for the medicine. It is then often prescribed by doctors by its name. Upon expiry of the patent, competing drug companies can then create a generic version of the medicine, assigning it a new brand name or just using the name of the active ingredient. Patients may soon be able to buy generic Cialis simply under the name ‘Tadalafil’.
Only the 5mg, 10mg and 20mg strengths of generic Cialis will be available from 14 November 2017.
may differ in their packaging or in the size or shape of the tablets, but they are required to be medically the same as their branded equivalents. The dosages, effects and active ingredients are the same. Quality assurance of both branded and generic medicines is carried out by the European Medicines Agency in London or by the governing authorities in member countries where the medicine is sold.
In 2014 the French drug company Sanofi reached an agreement with Eli Lilly to apply to provide Cialiswithout a prescriptionin the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe. As quoted in a press release by Eli Lilly, “Sanofi anticipates providing Cialis OTC after expiration of certain patents,” though terms of the licensing agreement were not disclosed, and the application would face significant regulatory hurdles.
This could have a dramatic effect on the drug’s competition with Viagra, considering the stigma attached to erectile dysfunction and many men’s hesitance to discuss it with their doctors. Although sildenafil, branded Cialis, and other ED medicines can be acquired through a face-to-face consultation with a GP or pharmacist, or by following a simple with a pharmacy such as Dr Fox, having the medicine available without a prescription will make it even easier to obtain.
Update September 2023:and both now available without prescription.
In this case patients can also expect to respond with competitive pricing to buy generic Cialis, and the same straightforward ordering process that has attracted patients to purchase medicine online in the past.
Cialis is know as the ‘weekend pill’ due to its 36 hour duration of action. It’s effective for more than 18 hours.
